“Quiet, Please.”

The above words were heard as I grew up, often in a classroom. The purpose of hearing these words was to get people’s attention, usually due to loud talking. The talking was drowning out the voice of the person in charge-usually the teacher. What that person had to say was important to all in the room. In order for that person”s (usually a teacher’s) voice to be clearly hears the other voices had to cease.

In our Christian walk there are times when we need a Quiet Please in our own lives. It’s a time when we tune out the voices of the world so that the voice of God can be heard. The usual and customary way God speaks to all of His children is by the inward witness. In our everyday lives many voices are around us, according to I Corinthians 14:10. That’s a reason why we need to gauge every voice-every word-by God’s written Word. Doing this on a regular, consistent basis will certainly aid us in focusing on what God is saying to us, thus eliminating all other voices. This is also a time to remember that God always speaks to us through our spirits, never our heads or bodies.

Is this easy? No, but it’s something every Christian needs to be aware of and act upon, to see victory in life as a result.
